EA Ranked The #7 Tech Company Young People Want To Work For

Ever wondered what it’s like to work at EA? You could compare employee experiences via our weekly interview series, “Breaking Into The Industry.” Or you could ask Universum, who just wrapped up a study asking young workers where they’d most like to punch the clock.

When Business Insider refers to “young workers,” they aren’t talking about aspiring summer interns. Universum’s study draws its data from a survey of 6,700 college graduates with one to eight years of professional experience, each of whom was asked to choose five ideal employers from a list of around 200 businesses. All workers consulted for the study were under the age of 40.

In the tech field, EA ranked as the seventh most desirable company to work for, coming out just behind major players like Apple and Facebook. Even when ranked among the full list of 200 companies, EA remained a crowd favorite, taking 15th in the "places I want to work" list. Other video game companies that made the list included Sony (#9) and Zynga (#63).

Peter Moore: Battlefield 3 Begins

Welcome to the Battlefield!  Today we launched Battlefield 3, a groundbreaking game and more importantly, a game-changing service.

If you haven’t already played, you’re going to be stunned by Battlefield 3.  It’s the most authentic, gritty and yet mesmerizingly beautiful first person shooter that EA has ever delivered.  The Frostbite 2 engine resets the bar for what you should expect from a war simulation game in terms of stunning animation, massive scale, dramatic visuals, precise audio and intense destruction.   Our teams at DICE have put their heart and soul into this game for the past three years, so it’s incredibly exciting to finally see Battlefield 3 out and in the hands of gamers across the world.

But what really makes today so exciting is that we’re just getting started.

I’ll let you in on a not-very-well-kept secret:  just because the game is now available, development doesn’t stop here.  Games with the scope and vision of a Battlefield 3 can’t be contained on just a disc or single download.  We now shift part of our organizational structure to focus on Battlefield 3 as a service – a Live team, supporting everything about Battlefield 3 from its patches, updates, and communities to the creation and delivery of new content on an ongoing basis.

Battlelog.  Data aggregation.  Live updates.  Cloud saves.  Expansion packs.  These are just some of the connected services that comprise the live Battlefield 3 experience, starting today.  And that won’t change as we go through the year, with new updates and services to make the game even richer.

With Battlelog you’ve got anytime, anywhere access to an online information hub for everything you do inside Battlefield 3.  Your aggregated gameplay stats, your achievements, your platoon, your community, are all part of Battlelog.

Through Origin you are connected directly to our Live team, delivering updates, patches and new content faster and with fewer steps.  You can also take advantage of Cloud Storage for Battlefield 3 with game saves that you can access from multiple PCs.

New content will also be just around the corner, starting just one month after launch with the Back to Karkand Expansion Pack – four new maps, new vehicles and weapons just one month after launch.

All of this and more point to the fact that today is really a beginning.  So much more is on the way, and we’ll be there every step of the way to make sure that, for a long time to come, you’re enjoying every second of our masterpiece, Battlefield 3.

We hope you’ve got some MREs stashed away, because Battlefield 3 just began its assault. With three million in pre-sales and over 60 industry awards already under its belt, the third title in the Battlefield series is officially the biggest FPS launch in EA history.

Today’s launch isn’t the only milestone for Battlefield 3; the beta shot down past stats as well. Over nine million players experienced the game’s September beta, collectively setting new social online play records for EA. In FPS terms, that’s over 42 billion shots fired and 1.6 billion kills registered. Good thing virtual bullets are free.

While we’re sure many of you are already gunning your way to glory – maybe you’re even firing up your PC as we post this – it’s not too late for those who aren’t. Order your copy of Battlefield 3 on Origin and start climbing the leaderboards today.

The Tokyo Game Show (TGS) is one of the marquee events of the videogames industry and this year over 200,000 attendees flocked to the show to see the best games of 2011. Publishers from all over the world displayed hundreds of games, all vying for the attention of the Japanese gaming public. One title stood out of the crowd; Battlefield 3. Already having won critical acclaim at E3 2011 (Best Online Multiplayer Game) and gamescom 2011 (Best of gamescom), reception for Battlefield 3 couldn’t have been better with long lines of gamers stretched around the Battlefield 3 kiosks all hoping to get a chance to experience the all-out warfare, massive destruction and epic scale provided by Battlefield 3’s Frostbite 2 engine.

45 Distinct Multiplayer Experiences in Battlefield 3

Get your adrenaline pumping with new details about Battlefield 3’s dynamic multiplayer modes. Forget the same old multiplayer experience that you’re used to; EA DICE is bringing a level of customization that redefines what players expect from online play. With the abundance of options available, you can completely transform your multiplayer game the way you want it. Battlefield 3 offers nine expansive multiplayer maps that automatically reconfigure to adapt to the five game modes, resulting in 45 distinct multiplayer experiences for you to choose from.

The classic Team Deathmatch game mode is perfect for dropping into a match quickly if you're looking to tear through the other team, and work to reach the set number of kills without the aid of vehicles. Squad Deathmatch takes it to the next level, pitting four squads of four against each other as they vie for control of an Infantry Fighting Vehicle. This game-changer is capable of keeping your squad supplied and ready to go at all times during combat.

Rush and Squad Rush, the extremely popular objective-based modes from Battlefield: Bad Company 2, return, complete with fine-tuned tweaks based on player feedback. And of course the classic Battlefield game mode, Conquest, is back. Engage in a sprawling fight against another team for control of a set number of flags through careful strategy and tactics. Mastering land, sea, and air vehicles is the key to victory in this definitive game mode.

Want to elevate your multiplayer game even more? Raise the stakes and choose to play in Hardcore Mode to strip out the user interface for a greater degree of immersion. Not interested in vehicles? Click the Infantry Only box in the server browser to leave out vehicles when searching for a game. Check out all the in-depth details of the multiplayer game modes over on the official Battleblog.

This latest entry in the critically acclaimed franchise is due for release on October 25th. Pre-order your copy of Battlefield 3: Limited Edition on Origin today and get ready for the ultimate multiplayer experience.

Business is War in the Revival of Sci-Fi Cult Classic Syndicate

The year is 2069 and the world is dark and insidious. Without government oversight, syndicate competition has grown increasingly cutthroat as they compete for rule over the market place. In America, three major corporations are at the center of the brutal syndicate business — Eurocorp, Cayman Global, and Aspari. Welcome back to the sci-fi world of Syndicate.

In Syndicate, you take on the role of Eurocorp’s latest prototype agent, Miles Kilo. The usual weapons are used against competitors, but in this advanced digital future, everything and everyone are connected. DART 6 bio-chip technology has been implanted into agents' heads, enabling them to slow down time, breach the digital world around them, and bring down enemies with upgradable hacking mechanics.

Starbreeze Studios is creating this unique revival of Syndicate as a savage first-person action shooter. Fast-paced and challenging, the game will deliver an epic adventure to new gamers and fans of the original alike. Familiar weapons and environments return with fresh interpretations and a separate four-player co-op mode will feature missions from the original Syndicate.

Syndicate will be available in early 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

The Sims Social Surges On Facebook

The Sims Social surpassed 9.3 million daily active users today, making it the second most popular game on  Facebook by daily active users – and growing! It’s a fantastic milestone for the Playfish London studio and The Sims franchise. And the fact that the title has helped EA become the #2 Social Game company in the world is also special – thanks to all our fans for making this possible!

When we founded Playfish in late 2007, well before anyone knew or talked about social games, our vision was to change how the world plays games by creating social and connected experiences between friends using social networks as our platform. We wanted to create experiences where what happens on screen is only part of the game, and where the real driver of game play is social interactions between friends. Two of our most enduring and popular games, Pet Society and Restaurant City, were early big successes with top rankings on the platform thanks to some pioneering early social play features – visiting friends, hiring friends as staff in your restaurant, and helping them - while at the same time competing with them.

The Sims Social has taken a huge leap forward in the evolution of Playfish and social games, not just in higher production values and in bringing one of the most loved game franchises to the platform, but in redefining the meaning of “social” in games and bridging the divide between the real world and the game world for our players.

The Sims Social is in lots of ways the culmination of Playfish’s original vision, and also our choice to partner with EA two years ago.  By combining our technology and passion for social play with the deep creative heritage of The Sims franchise and the insights of its creators, we feel we’ve brought something very special to life. And together with the social titles from our friends at PopCap (we’re huge fans!) and our upcoming launches, we’re really pleased with EA’s social game line-up, and we hope you are too!

So welcome to the world, The Sims Social, and a huge thanks to all those who contributed to making it at the Playfish London studio, EA Play, and the countless others who helped bring the game to life. We’re excited to work with all our fans to figure out how to evolve the game and its features and are thrilled to hear all your ideas of what you’d like to see in the game. Feel free to drop us a comment or contribute to The Sims Social forums. We look forward to hearing from you!

Kristian Segerstrale
GM and Co-Founder of Playfish

BATTLEFIELD 3 REDEFINES VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER

An astounding array of vehicles has always been the hallmark of the Battlefield series, and Battlefield 3 is no exception. It boasts 20 vehicles across 12 classes, each one fully customizable. In the latest installment of Battleblog, the DICE team reveals new details of just how expansive the vehicular component of Battlefield 3 is.

Tweaking the performance of your vehicle of choice is simple in execution and complex in options. There are 80 unlockable specialization upgrades that can be equipped to vehicles in one of three customization slots: secondary weapon, gadget, and upgrade. These specializations are unlocked by vehicle class based on the number of kills you score using any vehicle of that class.

In addition to offering the deepest vehicle customization to date in the series, DICE has overhauled vehicular combat to make it a more balanced, intense experience. Too often in the past, tank drivers barreled headlong into combat zones only to abandon their tanks when the going gets tough.

Finally, Battlefield 3 will also introduces armor recovery for vehicles that are only lightly damaged, but fending off the enemy until Engineer support can arrive is sure to result in some truly nail-biting moments. To learn more, be sure to check out the full blog post on the Battlefield site.

Battlefield 3 will release on October 25th in North America. Pre-order your copy on Origin today to receive early access to the open beta in September and other awesome exclusives.

BATTLEFIELD 3 NOVEL COMING

If you’re looking to dive deeper into the story of Battlefield 3 or if you’re a gamer who just likes to read, then we have some exciting news for you! DICE announced the publication of a novel based on the game that will propel the story in new directions.

The novel, titled Battlefield 3: The Russian, is written by the highly decorated ex-SAS operator and best-selling author of Bravo Two Zero, Andy McNab, with co-author Peter Grimsdale. The book tells the back-story of RU Special Forces operator Dima, one of the soldiers featured in the Battlefield 3 single-player campaign. Having first-hand experience of the drama and trauma of war, McNab brings an authentic voice and heart-wrenching perspective to the story.

In 1984 McNab was 'badged' as a member of 22 SAS Regiment and was involved in both covert and overt special operations worldwide. During the Gulf War he commanded Bravo Two Zero, a patrol that, in the words of his commanding officer, 'will remain in regimental history for ever.' Awarded both the Distinguished Conduct Medal and Military Medal during his military career, McNab was the British Army's most highly decorated serving soldier when he finally left the SAS in February 1993.

In the game, the single-player storyline is revealed through a series of flashbacks as Marine Staff Sergeant Henry Blackburn races to prevent an attack on New York City by a deadly force known as the PLR. As Blackburn recalls key events leading up to the attack, players take control of several characters in heart-pounding missions across land, sea and air. One of these characters is Dmitri “Dima” Mayakovsky, a legendary and pragmatic GRU operator in the twilight of his Special Forces career. Known as a “cleaner,” Dima is the sort of person who does whatever it takes to get the job done. The book picks up where the game leaves off, allowing McNab and Grimsdale to give a thrilling new perspective into Dima’s own personal quest as well as the events of Battlefield 3.

Like the game, the novel is charged with documentary intensity, high octane action, and ripped-from-the-headlines incursions. Battlefield 3: The Russian paints a picture of a soldier struggling to do whatever it takes to keep himself and his platoon alive.

This modern military novel will be released alongside the game on Oct. 25, 2011 and you can pre-order Battlefield 3 on Origin today!

PETER MOORE: EA SPORTS IS GROWING!

It’s an exciting time for us at EA SPORTS as we continue the radical transformation of our business.  There is now more opportunity than ever to bring connected sports experiences to our fans in a multitude of ways, on a multitude of platforms.  Success is no longer measured on the results of packaged goods, but rather in how we engage with our community and build a persistent, online world that is with you anytime and anywhere.

Building this digital playground is not a flip of the switch.  We must craft the proper infrastructure with talent that upholds the EA SPORTS strategic pillars: Innovate for the core, create value through live services, and develop new experiences for new consumers.  The expertise required means new jobs, many in functions that didn’t previously exist.  Our business is changing and so are our needs for talent.

I’m happy to confirm the expansion of EA SPORTS to the bustling development community of Austin, Texas.  As we’ve seen through the current EA studios based in Austin, the area provides a thriving talent pool of game developers, and their passion for sports (especially football - Hook ‘Em Horns!) is unmatched.  Combined with a political leadership that is dedicated to growing the digital media industry, Austin became the perfect location to begin our expansion.  Within the next year, we’ll be building a small team that will be focused on development on HD platforms.

This expansion won’t be limited to Austin, as we’re continuing to strengthen our talent pipeline within our core studios at EA Canada and Tiburon as they continue to build towards the next-generation of sports experiences.  Once again, welcome Austin, Texas to the EA SPORTS family!

The Champ Has Arrived! Fight Night Champion in Stores Now

Fight Night Champion is an intense and deep new mature experience that builds on the rich legacy of the Fight Night series, which is one of the most critically acclaimed sports franchises of the past five years.

Fight Night Champion features new gameplay innovation that delivers the rawness and brutality of the most realistic boxing simulation ever created. The title is packed with a deep menu of new modes and features, including: the all-new cinematic, narrative-driven Champion Mode; more than 50 licensed boxers including Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao; Full Spectrum Punch Control; the deepest career mode yet, Online Gyms, and much more.

“The EA SPORTS Fight Night franchise has consistently pushed the boundaries of innovation in sports videogames, from ushering in the new console generation in 2006 with Fight Night Round 3, to Fight Night Round 4 which introduced real world physics to the franchise two years ago,” said Dale Jackson, General Manager, Fighting, EA SPORTS. “Fight Night Champion advances the critically-acclaimed series with genre-defining new gameplay innovation, a deep feature set and an all new type of experience for the EA SPORTS gamer.”

Champion Mode brings cinematic storytelling to the Fight Night franchise and is the first such story mode in EA SPORTS history. Written by Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter Will Rokos, Champion Mode allows players to step into the shoes of up-and-coming middleweight prospect, Andre Bishop, as he discovers that the road to becoming a champion in professional boxing is one that is filled with corruption, personal struggle and more than just what happens between the ropes.

Fight Night Champion also introduces a host of gameplay improvements. The refined punching system, dubbed “Full Spectrum Punch Control”, brings the most accessible and responsive controls ever to a Fight Night title. A new anaerobic stamina system tracks individual muscle groups separately, punishing a player’s overdependence on a single punch and encourages combination punching and diligent stamina management. In addition, improved visuals, multiple control schemes, realistic damage, boxer-specific animations and multiple stun states round out the key gameplay improvements players will experience in Fight Night Champion.

Fight Night Champion is available for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system and the Playstation 3 computer entertainment system. The game has been rated M by the ESRB, and 16+ by PEGI. The Fight Night Champion demo is currently available on Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network.
